Module 4: Practical Application of AI in the Writing Classroom

Artificial intelligence is transforming how writing is taught, practiced, and assessed. This module helps teachers understand how to use AI responsibly and creatively at every stage of the writing process: From generating ideas, to designing assignments, to providing feedback. By the end of the module, educators will be able to integrate AI tools in ways that enhance learning, preserve student voice, and promote ethical and effective writing instruction.

In Lesson 1, educators identify and evaluate AI writing tools using the SAMR model (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition), selecting those that enhance learning while preserving student creativity and voice. In Lesson 2, they use AI to design engaging, personalized, and equitable writing assignments that address diverse learner needs and ethical considerations. In Lesson 3, they apply AI to provide efficient, individualized feedback and assessment while maintaining teacher oversight, protecting student data, and ensuring authentic evaluation.
